Lilybell Magazine

So, that is me with Sara Hilton at the Kerrytown Bookfest in Ann Arbor, MI on Sunday. We spent the day handing out postcards with free issue downloads and interacting with the book community of southeast Michigan.

I am so excited to be part of the writing staff for Lilybell digital magazine for girls! Our first issue is now available for a FREE DOWNLOAD (more later on that!)

Sara, magazine editor and new friend has a long history in magazine editing, having worked with GEMS print magazine and also as a published author.

Together our team is creating a magazine appropriate and uplifting for girls, ages 7-12. Each themed issue contains articles, fiction, recipes, crafts, nutty stuff, and downloadable, printable extras.

All of the beautiful posters and the banner were designed by our design director, Betsy King, who stopped by the booth on Sunday for a quick hello.

This was a tough week for me, the first Back to School that I have not taken part in for - well, many, many years. I resigned my post as school librarian last June and I am very grateful to have meaningful work that takes my mind off the fact that I MISS MY STUDENTS!!!!

So, here is our pitch line (which we said a gazillion times on Sunday):

The Lilybell girl is smart, creative, curious, and sometimes nutty. She likes to learn about the world by jumping in with two feet and making a splash. She doesn't mind getting her hands dirty if it means learning something new!

We really believe in providing a wholesome and fun product for girls that Mom can feel good about. So go to www.mylilybell.com and click on "Sample Issue". That first free issue is the Sewing Issue and the contents include:

  • An interview with a young clothing designer

  • The Secret Life of a T-shirt - do you know where your shirt came from and where it may end up after you are done with it?

  • A bookmark, sewing craft

  • A fiction story by the creators of the Ann Arbor Faries series

  • Every issue contains THE LIST - a list of fun factsrelated to the theme

  • Printables - fashion design templates to try your hand at design

AND - see that necklace? I got more attention from that than the magazine! It is made from black zippers. I didn't make it, but I am thinking about trying to make another. Next time I am at a garage sale that has a big box of zippers, I am grabbing it!!
